Christmas Greetings 2020

Parish Information > Parish > Christmas

As we look on the child in the crib we see that he is the answer to today's problems. Instead of violence, in the crib we see caring and tolerance. Instead of hatred we see concern and love. Instead of selfishness we see someone who will give his life on the cross so that we can be saved.
So let us, this Christmas, ask the child Jesus to help us to be gentle, to be tender and loving with those around us and to all the people we meet.
Jesus, it is you who gives us hope. In the darkness of our world, your light has shone. Your coming in gentleness encourages us to hold out the hand of reconciliation, to help one another, to work for peace. We remember today the message of the angels; "Glory to God in the highest heaven and on earth peace."
I wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas, that you and your families will be together over the festive season.

Loving God, on this Christmas Day we give thanks that Jesus your Son, has come into our world bringing us gifts of peace and joy.
Bless us as we sit down together at this table for our Christmas meal. Bless the food we share and help us to remember those who are hungry. Be with our neighbours and our friends, those who are lonely, sick or away from home. We pray that our departed loved ones may now sit at your table in heaven. May the joy of this feast give us strength and light, now and in the days. ahead. We make this prayer through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Christmas is a very special time of year for most people, it brings with it a sense of goodwill towards all, a time when we think of those who are less fortunate than ourselves. It is magical for our children who wait with bated breath for the coming of Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. It can be sad too, especially for those who find there is an empty chair since this time last year, it is difficult for those unemployed. Let our wish be that the New Year will bring with it greater happiness for everybody.

I wish each and everyone of you a very happy and holy Christmas and for the New Year all that you wish for yourselves.

Fr. Joe
